Markings: Terence D. Baxter
These pieces are made of oil and acrylic paint on canvas, masonite, or paper; charcoal and pastel on paper. Markings are meditations on landscape and figurative themes through the process of mark making. Normally, each piece starts out with a person/place that is very specific. With the first mark onto the canvas or paper, though, the process takes over: where it becomes a series of reactions to the chain of each mark placed: those marks build a specific time and place about the process itself, the finish is not a forgone conclusion but a result of following those marks. The pieces are specific, but not portraiture.
